Fire and Ice - Chili and Ice Cream Cook Off

Location: Barberville Pioneer Settlement, Barberville Florida

A plethora of diverse offerings and free admission – Chili Cook Off, Ice Cream Churn Off, Community Yard Sale, Antique Tractors and Engines, Free Music Lessons & More.

The Barberville Pioneer Settlement is once again celebrating the end of summer with the coolest, hottest event ever – Fire & Ice. For $4.00 participants can cool their tongues with homemade ice cream after voting for their favorite chili.

Every first Saturday people gather at the Pioneer Settlement for free music lessons and a music jam provided by dozens of volunteer musicians teaching everything from the guitar and banjo to the dobro and dulcimer. Every September, this first Saturday tradition is enhanced with free admission, a community yard sale and other special activities!

Community Yard Sale spaces are available for just $5.00 and charitable organizations are invited to come out and set-up information tents for free. Hit and Miss Engines and Antique Tractors will be on display and the summer kitchen will be open serving up lunch.

Gates open 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. The Chili Cook Off & Ice Cream Churn Off begins at Noon.

The Barberville Pioneer Settlement is located just eleven and a half miles north of Hwy. 92 (ISB), DeLand. The historical village museum is situated on a thirty-acre campus that features eighteen historical structures and a collection of over 10,000 artifacts.

Our mission is to educate and entrust the public and future generations with knowledge of the pioneer lifestyle of our forefathers, through hands-on experience, folk life demonstrations, preservation and historical exhibits.

The study will feature the workbook and video series by Sheron C. Patterson titled “A Mile in Her Shoes: Lessons from the Lives of Old Testament Women”.

Full Plate Living for Weight Loss Begins Thursday, September 7: Are you eating enough to lose weight? Strange as it may sound, most of us are not! This video-based class with Diana Fleming, PhD, and facilitated by Amanda Martin, CNMT, MBA, will teach us how to fill our plate and still lose weight…more efficiently. We’ll learn what successful losers do that we don’t. Classes are once a week on Thursday’s, September 7 to October 26, 2017, 7:00 – 8:15 pm, Upper Youth Center,Forest Lake Church, 515 Harley Lester Ln, Apopka.
