Family Program - Families Helping Military Families

Location: University of Central Florida, Orlando FL

The Family Program at UCF is working on understanding family stress and resiliency. We are inviting families to aid us in understanding stress and resiliency by participating in a one-time assessment study. In addition to helping other families, your family will receive an assessment of stress and family functioning and financial compensation of $100, ($20 at assessment and $80 at the completion of participation). This includes a clinical interview, questionnaires about mood, anxiety, and stress, and, for the children, collection of saliva samples and monitoring of sleep using a special wristwatch. The majority of the assessment is completed at home in about 7 minutes a day for one week. All of the information collected will be used to help our military families get the resources they need to cope with deployment periods.

For more information or to make an appointment to participate, please call or email Theresa Trombly at: 407.823.1063 or Theresa.Trombly@ucf.edu. This research program is running for the next six months to a year.

Who qualifies to participate:

  • Military families with children 7-17 who have: A currently deployed military service adult caregiver (for 30 days or more) One or two non-deployed military service adult caregivers
  • Civilian families with children 7-17 who have: Two adult caregivers living in the home. One caregiver that is currently working away from the home (for 30 days or more). Experienced or are undergoing marital separation or divorce (in the last 12 months).

Club Zion Community Church Second Annual Live Interactive Nativity Scene

Location: CLUB ZION COMMUNITY CHURCH, Cocoa Breach Florida

CLUB ZION COMMUNITY CHURCH SECOND ANNUAL LIVE INTERACTIVE NATIVITY SCENE

Club Zion Community Church cordially invites everyone to attend the 2nd annual Live Interactive Nativity Scene. It will be held on December 22 and 23 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and on Christmas Eve December 24 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Upon completion of the Nativity on Christmas Eve everyone is invited to the Club Zion Community Church candlelight service that will be held in the sanctuary. You will be able to experience the Nativity while walking through on your way to the Sanctuary for the service at 7:00 p.m.

There is no cost for entry and everyone is invited to experience the birthplace of Jesus Christ in the far off town of Bethlehem.

  • The nativity will consist of a number of different stations for the people to walk through and interact with the Nativity cast members;
  • First you will be greeted by two Roman soldiers who are taking the Roman Census;
  • Then you will pass by shepherds in the fields of Bethlehem;
  • After you pass through the fields and interact with the local shepherds you will enter the town of Bethlehem;
  • In the town, you can visit the Inn where Joseph and Mary were told that there was no room for them. You can mingle with the Inn Keeper and the people who are staying at the inn;
  • There will be a market place where the local people will be able to interact with you and guide you through the town;
  • There will be a group of “people of the day” hanging around a fire pit sharing Scriptures, totally unaware that the Savior has been born;
  • You can visit the stables where the manger is located and you will be able to interact with Mary, Joseph, the Wisemen and shepherds.

This is a really rewarding and moving experience. The people that attended last year said that they felt that they were actually in Bethlehem and were totally moved by this experience.
