FREE Community Health Fair

New Beginnings of Lake County will be hosting a FREE Community Health Fair on Saturday, June 22^nd from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Wesley Center (950 7th Street Clermont, FL).

This Health Fair, dedicated to Wellness and Fun, will feature more than 70 vendors offering free medical screenings for everyone, meetings with specialty Doctors and Dentists, lessons on how to eliminate back pain, expert nutritional guidance and healthy living tips as well as free sports physicals for kids 11 and under! Life Line Screening offer screening packages and stroke testing for a fee (pre-registration required).There will also be a bounce house and face painting for the kids along with lots of free door prizes to be given out.

Join us for a family friendly day filled with activities for all ages! All proceeds will support New Beginnings’ Homeless Recovery Programs. Additional vendors interested in participating in this community event are welcome. Call Sandy Farnsworth at 352.617.8788 for additional information.

New Beginnings is a 501c3, not-for-profit organization. Since its inception in 2007, New Beginnings has been empowering people to live a responsible life. Over the past 2 years, they have served 11,115 families and distributed over 143,000 pounds of food.  They have provided clothing, shoes, household items, counseling and hope to thousands of local people.

Shoes 4 Kids: Love our Children, Love our Land World Record Breaking Event

Shoes 4 Kids USA will be joining with the state initiative to reduce solid waste by collecting used shoes for recycling. They will be collecting all types of used shoes which will be redistributed through micro-enterprise partners and used in developing nations for impoverished people to start, maintain and grow an enterprise to feed, clothe and house their families. But that’s not all.

This project holds a three-fold benefit. In the U.S. alone, approximately 630 million pairs of shoes are thrown away each year. The materials used to manufacture a pair of shoes are created from chemical compounds, the kind that will create health hazards if left to disintegrate openly or in landfills. By donating shoes to Shoes 4 Kids, what would have gone into landfills will be repurposed and given a second chance to make a difference in a developing country. Thirdly, Shoes 4 Kids USA will receive funds to buy new shoes for children in need in Central Florida.

We are calling on everyone in our community to gather up their unwanted shoes and bring them to our World Record Breaking Event. Shoes will be accepted in all conditions. Simply bring them to the south parking lot at 1199 Clay Street in Winter Park on June 22 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. The parking lot can be accessed off of Par Street next to I-4. Additionally shoe donations can be made throughout the month of June at collection boxes throughout Central Florida. For a list of collection sites, please visit Shoes 4 Kids USA.

VBS

We are excited to announce our VBS dates, Saturday June 22nd, beginning at 10 a.m., we have our ‘kick-off’. Lots of fun, games, prizes and great family time. Our VBS week is Monday June 24th through Friday June 28th, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 pm.

We will celebrate our ‘Finale’ the last day, Friday, June 28th. Parents, friends and neighbors, we invite you to come to the finale and see what your children have learned and enjoy the program they have enjoyed creating for you!

A free cultural celebration uniting the diverse refugee population in Central Florida. Festivities include: cultural performances, arts and crafts, music, calligraphy demonstrations, world cuisine, traditional dances, face painting, and country exhibits. This is an unique opportunity to meet refugees from all over the world who will be demonstrating their gifts and talents. Learn about their culture and heritage they bring to America.

The Orlando Museum of Art is proud to offer a program that connects children with disabilities and special needs to art and the world around them. In an environment where there are no wrong questions or answers, the Creative Connections program will engage your child’s imagination. Creative Connections is a program that the whole family can participate in and enjoy. Designed with the help of an Advisory Council, this program is offered for students ages 7-22.
