Family Program - Families Helping Military Families

Location: University of Central Florida, Orlando FL

The Family Program at UCF is working on understanding family stress and resiliency. We are inviting families to aid us in understanding stress and resiliency by participating in a one-time assessment study. In addition to helping other families, your family will receive an assessment of stress and family functioning and financial compensation of $100, ($20 at assessment and $80 at the completion of participation). This includes a clinical interview, questionnaires about mood, anxiety, and stress, and, for the children, collection of saliva samples and monitoring of sleep using a special wristwatch. The majority of the assessment is completed at home in about 7 minutes a day for one week. All of the information collected will be used to help our military families get the resources they need to cope with deployment periods.

Who qualifies to participate:

  • Military families with children 7-17 who have: A currently deployed military service adult caregiver (for 30 days or more) One or two non-deployed military service adult caregivers
  • Civilian families with children 7-17 who have: Two adult caregivers living in the home. One caregiver that is currently working away from the home (for 30 days or more). Experienced or are undergoing marital separation or divorce (in the last 12 months).

Come and support us as we raise funds for Nicaragua Mission Trip with worship and then a Spaghetti Dinner! Gluten free pasta is available as well, dinner will start at 5:30 p.m. and it will be $5 a plate. All proceeds from the spaghetti dinner will be going to the Nicaragua Mission Trip. The Redemption concert will be starting at 6:30 p.m. (There is no cost for the concert.) Join us for a great night as we rock out for Jesus!

Memorial Day Book Signing - Charity Event

Location: Chick fil-A, Orlando Florida

AL M. SCOTT (pseudonym for Scott A. Meehan) will be pre-selling/signing his novel, “Love in the House of War,” on Memorial Day, May 25, 2015 at the Chick fil-A on University and Rouse. Prizes will be given from drawings and a percentage of proceeds will go towards Krystin Goenner’s mission trip to Spain.

The novel is a military romantic suspense story about a Green Beret soldier rescuing an Afghan girl from the Taliban. The official release date is June 16, 2015 by Tate Publishing.
