The West Sanford Branch of Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida will host a community health fair March 16, 2013, providing free health services to children and families in the community. Health services available at the event will include body mass index and vision screenings, dental check-ups and more, as well as a kids’ corner with games. The event is free and open to the public.
Aimed at reaching children who are eligible, but not enrolled in Florida KidCare in the greater Orlando area, on-site application and enrollment assistance will also be provided. Children in a family of four earning up to $47,100 a year may qualify for free or low-cost health insurance. The Florida KidCare program covers regular check-ups, immunizations, doctor and dentist visits, hospital care, mental health services, prescriptions and more. For more information about the Florida KidCare program, go to Florida KidCare or call 1.888.540.5437.
“Access to affordable, quality healthcare is crucial for the lives of so many young people in this community and for their families,” said Gary Cain, President and Chief Professional Officer for Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida (BGCCF). “We’re thrilled to host this event and to support Florida KidCare program’s goals, which are so close to the heart of BGCCF’s own commitment to helping children, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances.”
Many children go uninsured even though they are eligible for the Florida KidCare program. Children with health insurance lead healthier lives, do better in school and their parents have greater peace of mind knowing their children’s health is one less worry. This event is part of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Connecting Kids to Coverage campaign, a nationwide effort to enroll eligible children and teens in programs like Florida KidCare.
