MAYSfest is the 2012-2013 season finale concert of the Metropolitan Area Youth Symphony, an organization comprising over two-hundred young musicians from across nine Central Florida counties. Founded in 2010 in honor of influential local music educator Jonathan May, the MAYS strives to continue Mr. May’s inclusive educational philosophy of music as means for intellectual, artistic, and personal betterment.
This performance will showcase the talented and diverse students of all MAYS ensembles and will feature a World Premiere by prolific composer Dr. Daniel May, brother of Mr. May, whose music has appeared in nearly seventy films, including Midnight in Paris, The Blind Side, Fight Club, and many more. There will also be a pre-concert fundraiser, in which guests that donate to The Jonathan May Foundation can attend a lecture by Dr. May about the writing process and his MAYSfest composition.
MAYSfest is presented by The Jonathan May Foundation, which supports the MAYS by providing scholarships and funding to ensure that all students have the opportunity to reap the benefits of a classical musical education. Both your attendance at MAYSfest and all MAYS concerts, or contribution to The Jonathan May Foundation, will allow the MAYS continued growth and development. Tickets for MAYSfest are $17.25 through TicketMaster, or you can buy them directly from MAYS for $10. All tickets are for general admission.
