Early Learning Coalition of Seminole
The Early Learning Coalition of Seminole (ELC of Seminole) will issue certificates for Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) registration at its Longwood Florida office beginning Saturday, March 16, 2013. The VPK program is a FREE educational program created to prepare every four-year old in Florida for kindergarten and build the foundation for their educational success.
All VPK certificates issued in Seminole County will be issued at the ELC of Seminole office located at 280 Hunt Park Cove Longwood, FL. The free VPK program is available to every Florida four-year-old who will turn four on or before September 1, 2013. Children born between September 1, 2008 and September 1, 2009 are eligible.
Parents or legal guardians must complete a VPK application; verify the child’s age and residency to obtain a VPK certificate. Applications are available for download at the Early Learning Coalition of Seminole’s website at under the “downloads” tab. Age verification requires a legible copy of the child’s birth certificate OR current immunization form 680 OR military ID OR current passport. Residency may be verified with a copy of the parent’s driver’s license with current address OR recent utility bill OR lease/deed. Parents should make copies of the items they choose to use for verification because the documents remain on file with the Coalition.
Once eligibility is determined the VPK certificate is issued and used by the parent to enroll their four-year-old in any state approved VPK program they choose. Seminole County has over 150 participating providers. Parents can check how well a VPK provider recently prepared four-year-olds for kindergarten by viewing 2011-2012 VPK Provider Kindergarten Readiness rates at the Florida Department of Education.
