02/11/2019 - 02/14/2019 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM	ARISS (Amateur Radio on the International Space Station Location: Faith Christian Academy, Orlando Florida Students at Faith Christian Academy in Orlando, FL will talk with astronauts on the International Space Station via Amateur Radio in mid February of this year. This activity is part of the ARISS (Amateur Radio on the International Space Station) Program, which promotes learning opportunities as part of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) initiative. The specific date and time of the contact is currently being scheduled with NASA for the week of February 11th-14th. In order to prepare for this exciting event, middle school teachers at FCA have taken several measures to prepare all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students for the upcoming contact. Students completed an ISS booklet provided on the NASA website, received credit for videoing the ISS as it passes over Florida, and completed art and math assignments pertaining to space. In addition, each grade has visited Kennedy Space Center this school year as well as being taught about the current ISS crew members. The week prior to the astronaut contact, students will be building a Raspberry Pi system which essentially tracks the location of the ISS, gives information about the current crew, and notates anticipated visible night time passes of the ISS over the area in addition to other pertinent data. The event, including the astronaut contact, can be attended by the entire FCA student body, any and all family members, and those within the Faith Christian Academy community.
