The Mental Health Association of Central Florida (MHACF.org) is pleased to announce that Ashley Judd will be the keynote speaker for its 13th annual Legacy of Champions Luncheon, presented by Advent Health on Wednesday May 29th. The event will take place from 10:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Rosen Centre.
Since 2011, the Legacy of Champions Luncheon has served as the primary method by which the MHACF raises essential funds to support critical programs like the Outlook Clinic. It is Central Florida’s only free and charitable clinic that specifically provides mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults that are uninsured and face access obstacles to seeking mental health services and care. This year’s goal is to raise $250,000 so that MHACF can serve 7,500 people in 2024.
Judd is a Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated actress who stars in both indie gems and box office hits including the movies Heat, Kiss the Girls, Double Jeopardy, and Divergent. However, her influence extends far beyond the screen. Her work as a feminist and social justice humanitarian has made an impact around the world. She has traveled to 22 countries, spending time in brothels, refugee camps, hospices, and economically distressed areas advocating for the sexual and reproductive rights and health for girls and women. In 2019, the United Nations honored Judd as the Global Advocate of the Year. Her work, is in part, driven by her experience as survivor of sexual assault. In 2022, she experienced the trauma of finding her mother after she had died by suicide.
“We are so honored to have Ms. Judd as our keynote speaker. She is someone who has a story that is filled with trauma, but her story is much bigger than that. She offers empathy, relatability, practical advice, and inspiration to those that may also be struggling with trauma,” states Marni Stahlman, President and CEO of MHACF.
The event will be hosted by Orlando Sentinel columnist Scott Maxwell who will present the Community Heroes award and Candice Crawford Community Champion Award.
