A Year in the Life: Backstage to Onstage at Universal Orlando Resort Exhibition

In an unprecedented collaboration, Universal Orlando Resort and the Orange County Regional History Center in Orlando, Fla., present A Year in the Life: Backstage to Onstage at Universal Orlando Resort, an exhibition that gives visitors an exclusive look at the extensive process that goes into bringing the theme park’s iconic annual events to life. Opening January 26, 2013, and running through January 26, 2014, the exhibition will change with each Universal Orlando Resort event season and the holidays – focusing on The Macy’s Holiday Parade and performances by Holiday Music Sensation Mannheim Steamroller. It also showcases the creative process that brought to life two of Universal Orlando Resort’s newest entertainment experiences – the Universal Cinematic Spectacular – 100 Years of Movie Memories lagoon show and the Universal Superstar Parade.

Wild Florida: Past, Present and Future, an Art of Sand Exhibit

Wild Florida: Past, Present and Future, an Art of Sand exhibit, opens President’s Day weekend and remains open through Memorial Day. Guests to Brevard Zoo can take their walk on the wild side to new depths of art and history as they traverse a 1/4-mile trail taking in 13 incredible sand sculptures carved into the native landscape of Brevard Zoo. Created by eight international sand sculptors, this exhibit shares the Florida story – tracing the history of wildlife and humans on our peninsula. Hear the sounds of a time gone by as you view these breathtaking artistic and historical sculptures – just in time to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Ponce de Leon’s first exploration of North America.

This exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. February 16 through May 27. It has a separate admission price (in addition to Zoo admission) of $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for children ages 2 to 12. Children under 2 are free.

"Jerusalem Jones" and the Dead Sea Scrolls with Ken Hanson, Ph.D.

A scholar of Hebrew language and literature, the history of biblical lands, Jewish and early Christian culture – and a natural storyteller, Ken Hanson, also known as “Jerusalem Jones,” takes you on a journey to uncover the secrets of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Hanson set out on an odyssey to Jerusalem to find these mysterious ancient parchments written by an unknown Judean sect. Studied by only a select few, the scrolls revealed the life and hopes of an ancient group of people. While living in Jerusalem, Hanson studied Hebrew and earned his master’s degree in International/Inter-Cultural Communications. He also worked for a TV station in Southern Lebanon and served as the company liaison with the Israeli Army while living in Galilee. Hanson has appeared on syndicated radio and national television, including The History Channel. He teaches Judaic Studies at the University of Central Florida and Philosophy and Religion at Rollins College. He received his doctorate in Hebrew Language and Literature from the University of Texas at Austin. Members $10, non-members $20. Drinks, snack foods, and cash bar available. The Compassionate Friends, Apopka

The mission of The Compassionate Friends: When a child dies, at any age, the family suffers intense pain and may feel hopeless and isolated. The Compassionate Friends provides highly personal comfort, hope, and support to every family experiencing the death of a son or a daughter, a brother or a sister, or a grandchild, and helps others better assist the grieving family.

There are meetings in Apopka, Longwood, and Orlando.

Apopka Meetings are held the 3rd Thursday of each month 7 p.m. at Apopka Assembly of God.

By Your Side Ministries presents: A Musical Performance of Godspell

Free admission includes a musical show of the Gospel according to Matthew and a free Italian dinner. Come and fellowship with the Family of God while enjoying free food and awesome music. There are multiple performances, so we hope to see everyone there at least one night!
