Free Benefit Concert for Education

Location: Master’s Domain COGIC, Daytona Beach Florida

Daytona Beach native and former Volusia County Schools (VCS) District Coordinator of Recruitment & Retention, Dr. D’Lorah Butts-Lucas, is hosting a free benefit concert for Nyame Bekyere Christian School. The concert will feature Javis Mays & Restoration with special performances by the Bethune-Cookman University Inspirational Gospel Choir and Emerald Pelicieux.

Nyame Bekyere Christian School was originally established in 1999 by British missionaries in the Central Region of Ghana, West Africa. The school closed in 2011 leaving nearly 50 children out of school. The school is in need of administrative support to ensure future sustainability. Dr. Butts-Lucas encountered the school last spring while doing missions in Africa. Utilizing her 8 years of administrative experience with Volusia County Schools and legal background, Dr. Butts-Lucas has taken on the role of Executive Director to re-open the school and help establish it for long-term success.

Orlando MG Walk 2014

Location: Lake Baldwin, Orlando FL

My name is Amber McKeon and in February 2009, I was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis. I was battling the disease for 2 1/2 years before doctors were able to diagnose me. I have since had major surgery and been on high doses of corticosteroids and other medications to control the symptoms of MG. Please read my full story about living with MG.

This year is the 4th Annual MG Walk sponsored by the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA). The MG Walks is the MGFA’s new signature awareness and fundraising campaign. With monies raised from the MG Walks, MGFA is committed to finding a cure for myasthenia gravis and closely related disorders, improving treatment options and providing information and support to people with myasthenia gravis through research, education, community programs, and advocacy.

Myasthenia Gravis is a neuromuscular chronic auto-immune disease that affects only 2 in 10,000 people. There is no cure for this disease and thats why we walk…”For a World without MG!”
