Relay for Life of Oviedo & Winter Springs

Location: Lawton Chiles Middle School, Oviedo FL

Please join us on April 1st to Celebrate, Remember, and Fight Back against cancer…This event is a wonderful way to show your support of loved ones who have been touched by cancer as the community gathers together and hosts individual fundraisers for the American Cancer Society.

The event has free admission and entertainment. Our opening ceremony starts at 4 pm, followed by our Survivor Lap. If you are a cancer survivor or caregiver, please visit www.relayforlife.org/oviedowinterspringsfl and you will be invited to our survivor dinner on March 29 (free) and asked to attend our survivor lap at our Relay Event.

A Luminaria Ceremony will be taking place at 9 pm to honor our loved ones who have lost their battle to cancer.

UCP "Evening at the Palace" Gala

Location: Downtown Disney Hotel; Buena Vista Palace, Lake Buena Vista FL

UCP of Central Florida’s 24th Anniversary Gala, An Evening at the Palace, will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Buena Vista Palace Hilton. Actresses Cheryl Hines and Rachael Harris and actor RJ Mitte will be joined by many of Central Florida’s top community and business leaders to help raise funds for UCP, a not-for-profit agency providing the best support, education, and therapy to children with and without disabilities. Guests will enjoy captivating entertainment, music and dancing, a four course gourmet meal paired with wine and spirits, and incredible auction items.

Three leaders will be awarded prestigious distinctions including the UCP Champion for Children (Senate President Andy Gardiner), Jack Holloway Star of Gratitude Award (Two Men and a Truck) and The Jackie Bailes Legacy Award (Lake Scary 5K Fundraising Team).

The Gold Rush is coming on Saturday April 1, 2017 as nearly 1,000 guests will come together for a high-end western event at the Rosen Shingle Creek.  Activities include exclusive silent and live auctions, live pop and country western entertainment, unlimited chef-prepared dine around by 30 of Central Florida’s finest restaurants, and dancing to the tune of Blue Stone Circle.  All monies raised will support the American Cancer Society’s mission to fund life-saving research and provide local patient services.

Friends of Lake Apopka FOLA 40 Bike Ride

Location: Winter Garden City Hall, Winter Garden FL

FIRST EVER “FOLA 40” BIKE RIDE AROUND LAKE APOPKA – is scheduled for Sunday, April 2, 2017.  The 40-mile bike ride around Lake Apopka intends to: Raise awareness about the restoration Lake Apopka. The ride (not a race) will start at the Winter Garden Farmers Market area between 7:30-8am. Cyclists will head east on the West Orange Trail and ride counter-clockwise around the lake This is to dotwo MAJOR things: 1) Raise awareness about our two amazing trails (West Orange & Lake Apopka Loop)  2)Raise awareness of the need to connect the two trails.  To register for the ride please visit www.active.com and search for FOLA 40

There will be 4 rest stops (energy drink & energy bars provided by Crooked Can):

  • Magnolia Park (sponsor: City of Apopka)
  • Halfway point of the Lake Apopka Loop Trail (sponsor: St Johns River Water Management District)
  • Green Mountain Scenic Byway Trailhead (sponsor: Green Mountain Scenic Byway Committee)
  • Killarney Station(sponsor: Oakland Nature Preserve)
  • Finish at Crooked Can Brewery in Winter Garden

Lake Apopka Loop Trail is a gravel trail. Hybrid, mountain, or cyclo-cross bikes are recommended.  The registration fee is $40 and the first 100 registrants get a “FOLA 40” t-shirt and a free beverage!

There will be several keynote speakers from the community and child abuse survivors will be sharing their story. Help us recognize those in our community who provide a voice for these children during National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
