7th Annual Pumpkin Run to Benefit Haiti

Location: Mead Garden, Winter Park, FL, Winter Park Florida / Orange

Runners Invited to Run the Good Race for Haiti

WINTER PARK, Florida, Sept. 19, 2016 – It’s almost time for the 7th annual Pumpkin Run on November 12. The event, a 5K for runners, race-walkers and casual walkers, will benefit Catholic mission projects in Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

The Pumpkin Run, sponsored by St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and St. Stephen Catholic Community, starts at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 12 at historic Mead Garden, 1500 South Denning Drive, Winter Park.

“Every time on my return from a trip to Haiti, I thank God for the blessing of living in a land of plenty,” said Father Richard Walsh, pastor of St. Margaret Mary. “Participation in the Pumpkin Run is one way to share some of those blessings with those in great need.”

Race-day registration costs are $35 for adults and $25 for students, ages 10 to 18. Runners who register prior to November 6 will receive a discount. A special entry fee for student groups of six or more is available at $15 per student with an adult registration; children age 9 and under can race for free with a paying adult.

Visit www.pumpkin5krun.com to use our secure, online registration form, or contact Jay Sujansky at 407.421.2151 for more race information, details on student group registration or how to help sponsor the event.

On-site registration and check-in will begin at 6:30 a.m., and the race will start at 7:30 a.m., with award ceremonies to follow.

Awards will be presented to the top male and female runners and competitive walkers, and top three finishers in each male and female age group. Participants are invited to enjoy an after-race celebration supported by local sponsors and vendors. All participants will receive a free digital photo.

The event is open to the public. Free parking is available.

SHINE Your Light in the Darkness, Say NO to Human Trafficking

Location: Lockhart Church, Orlando FL

“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. “

Matthew 5:16

Cost: $13 per person (lunch included)

Human Trafficking is an issue around where we live. Most of us don’t even know that it exists, it’s right under our nose in our own back yard. It’s there, all around us and we don’t see it! Did you know that every 30 seconds another person becomes a victim of human trafficking? What is Human Trafficking? How do we spot it? What do we do about it?

Guest Speaker: Sergeant Dave Allmond has been a member of the Orlando Police Dept. for 16 years. Prior to this, he served as a probation officer for 10 years. During his career at OPD, he has served in the Patrol Operations Division, Undercover Vice Unit, International Drive Bicycle Unit and the Aide to the Deputy Chief of Police. In 2005, Sergeant Allmond was named the City of Orlando’s employee of the year for his efforts in combating vice crimes.  Sergeant Allmond is currently the supervisor of the Human Trafficking Unit at the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation (MBI). The MBI is a multi-agency permanent task force consisting of law enforcement officers from the federal, state and local levels. The MBI was conceived to fill the need for a cooperative effort to combat criminal activities which were organized, well-financed, and operated freely across jurisdictional lines of the existing law enforcement agencies.
