Z88.3 FM: Safe For The Little Ears®

Date/Time Event
6:30 AM - 11:00 AM

#runforapril 5K

Location: Hickory Point Soccer Complex, Tavares FL

Kevin and April Von Maxey are long time Tavares residents and have devoted much of their time to the community as teachers at local schools and also as cross country coaches at Tavares Middle School for the past 10 years. Recently, April (36 years old) was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of pneumonia. She spent 21 days in the hospital where during that stay she was on a ventilator and in a medically induced coma, underwent a lung bypass surgery to place her on an ECMO machine, endured many nights where Dr’s and nurses didn’t think she’d make it through the night, blood clots and an infection that damaged her lung tissue. She is HOME now, by God’s grace!  There are still challenges, she has 5 specialists to follow up with, medicine to treat the lingering infection, physical and occupational therapy (she lost 25 lbs of muscle during her hospital stay) to regain strength and coordination. We are doing a 5K benefit on May 20th to help offset medical expenses and loss of wages. This is a walk/run 5K for 12 yr old and older. A 100 yard dash will be done for 11 yr old and under.

Registration is available online at www.itsyourrace.com.
