The Because Challenge

The Because Challenge is an 1.27 mile experience for the whole FAM to participate in, replicating challenges kids face in foster care. The child welfare system across the United States is in crisis. In Central Florida alone, there are 1,544 kids who have been removed from their homes and placed in foster care, and 162 of those kids are not even in families. Beyond that, 50% of foster families quit after the first year due to the strain on the system and the lack of support the majority of these families experience.

These statistics are tragic.
Put yourself in the shoes of these children and teens for a moment. As a child faces a family breakdown, they experience placement into an unfamiliar home, disruption, and too often, disruption again – the beginning of an unrelenting and unending cycle. Sadly, many children age-out of foster care without a permanent or lasting sense of family.

Our goal is to break the cycle of foster care and ensure that kids are in well supported families.
