Harmony Water Walk

Location: Harmony Town Square, Harmony Florida

Harmony Water Walk:  Saturday May 6, 2017 at 9:00 am, Harmony, FL

On Saturday May 6th at 9:00 am, in Harmony Town Center, we will join people from all around the world by being a Host Site for World Vision’s Global 6K for Water. On one day over 20,000 people will walk, run or stroll to bring clean water to children in developing countries. This event is going to be amazing and we are inviting you, your friends and your families to join us.

Over 1000 children die every day because they don’t have access to clean water.  Most kids will walk about 3.7 miles (6K) in search of dirty, contaminated water. Often alone, they must leave the safety of their homes and villages, where they are at risk for animal attacks and kidnapping. Most children do not go to school because of the time it takes them to provide life-giving water for their families.

When you walk, you provide the means for these communities to find water and dig wells. In turn, you change the life of the children. They have access to clean and safe drinking water. Their communities can grow socio-economically and the impact is lifelong.

When you register, you will receive a T-shirt, a medal and a racing bib.  The bib will have the picture and name of a child who needs a clean source of water in her/his community

For additional information or to Register, go to: worldvision6k.org or Harmony Water Walk Facebook events page.

About HUM:

Halifax Urban Ministries, a faith based 501(C)(3) non-profit corporation, has been serving the community since 1981 with minimal government funding because of generous donations from business, faith and individual donors. We offer Homeless Prevention services throughout Volusia County from 3 service centers and distributed services at 22 locations. These locations offer The Feed a Family Homeless Prevention Program that distributes over 500 tons of food annually, helping keep families living below the poverty line in their homes by reducing their grocery bill, leaving more funds for housing. Our Homeless Intervention services include The HUM Family Shelter, which provides emergency & transitional housing to over 110 families with children each year. Last year we moved 54 families into permanent housing through our Rapid Re-housing Program. In 2017 we will open the Hope Place Family Assistance Center, please visit www.hope.place to learn more.  The Bridge of Hope daily hot meal program provides over 96,000 meals to people in need each year. Homeless assistance direct services at the HUM Center include laundry, showers, case management, mail acceptance, ID applications, clothing, and computer access.  HUM has forged partnerships with Halifax Health, SMA, Volusia County and area faith groups to provide on-site medical & mental health services, the SAVE Docket Program, cold weather shelters, Traveler’s Aid, prescription and utility & rent assistance.
