Re-Creation USA Concert

Friday, February 1, 2019 • 7:00 pm

The Prince of Peace Concert Series is excited to host Re-Creation USA, Inc. as part of the 2018-2019 series! This free concert features big band, rock ‘n roll, country swing, and retro music (each song a classic); dynamic, vibrant vocals; high-energy dance and choreography; lavish, original costuming; and a grand patriotic finale!

Doors open at 6:30 pm. This event will be held in the Family Life Center. Admission is free — donations are gratefully encouraged.

About Re-Creation USA

Re-Creation USA began in 1976 when Hugh Brooks, the founder of the group, was an instructor at the Pennsylvania State University. While visiting practicum students, he realized that very few institutions have an opportunity to benefit from the therapeutic value of live professional entertainment. Concerned, he organized Re-Creation to offer this service to state centers, prisons, hospitals, nursing homes, and other care facilities. Entertainers were enlisted, and Re-Creation immediately began institutional performances in Pennsylvania. Within a very short time Re-Creation was asked to tour for the USO, and Veterans Affairs Medical Centers were added to the schedule. Re-Creation assumed full responsibility for the national VA program in 1983.

Re-Creation now presents more than 320 shows a year. Half of those shows are staged at fairs, banquets, conventions, schools, and churches, which in turn fund the other half: more than 150 shows annually in Veterans Homes and Hospitals in all 50 states!

The young people in Re-Creation are not paid for their service. They give up at least a year of their lives to travel the country entertaining the men and women in our Veterans Homes & Hospitals. Arriving at the facilities four hours before show time. They set up, change into costumes, and visit hospital rooms and wards. Then they assist patients to the show area, perform for them, return them to their rooms, pack up and load equipment, and drive on, averaging 300 miles a day!

The Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge cited the young people of Re-Creation as “America’s Ambassadors to Hospitalized Veterans” for providing the only program of its kind in America.

Therapeutic entertainment by Re-Creation is more than a show; it is a unique, personal touch which transports concerned, dedicated, and talented young people into hospital wards and rooms; reaches out to patriots who think they have been forgotten by their country; and offers a therapy that medical personnel attest is an invaluable contribution to the healing process.

Re-Creation USA, Inc., is a non-profit corporation now under the direction of Jay Muller.

Re-Creation’s 44th edition presents “CLASSIC!” — a grand celebration highlighting the most popular American songs of all time! And every show includes rousing Patriotic music in honor of America’s hospitalized veterans and troops!

Young, talented, performers who captivate audiences of all ages! A magical program that transforms the stage into a wondrous showplace of unforgettable entertainment! Colorful, flashing costumes…state-of-the-art sound reinforcement…professional, stylized choreography.

Re-Creation presents programs at fairs, banquets, conventions, schools, churches, and many other events. The group has performed for the President of the United States, as well as other leaders and dignitaries.

Barefoot Mile - Walk for Freedom

Join your community for the Orlando Barefoot Mile!

The Barefoot Mile is a 1 mile barefoot walk to Fight4Freedom for those trapped in human trafficking both locally and globally.

Human trafficking is the fastest growing crime in the world today, an annual $150 billion dollar industry. It is the third largest international criminal industry. Two million children are exploited every year in the global commercial sex trade. These crimes are not just being committed internationally, it is happening right here in Orlando too.

The funds raised will assist in the rescue, restoration, reintegration and prevention of human trafficking in Orlando, the U.S. and internationally.

Saturday, February 2nd
Lake Eola (Washington Plaza)
Registration begins at 9am
Walk begins at 10am

The cost to participate is $25 per person (12 and under walk free) and includes a t-shirt and swag bag. Each participant is asked to set a goal of raising $100 to Fight4Freedom on behalf of those caught in human trafficking.  The goal is to have 300 participants walk in the Barefoot Mile with each participant engaging in the peer-to-peer fundraiser.

To register for the event go to:
https://harbourhope.com/event/barefoot-mile-lake-eola/
OR
Text ORLANDOBFM to 71777

(Please note: it is not a requirement to walk barefoot in order to participate – your community friends would still love to have you join even if you prefer to wear your shoes!)

If you’d like to volunteer to help us with the event please contact us at: info@harbourhope.com and include “Volunteer for Barefoot Mile” in the subject line.

This event will benefit JOY International, dedicated to rescuing, restoring and reintegrating victims of trafficking in partnership with Harbour Hope International (located right here in Orlando) whose mission is to empower marginalized women and children through holistic care and provide mentoring friendships for those that have been rescued from a life of sex trafficking.
