Help Me Grow


Location: Center for Health & Wellbeing, Winter Park FL

Help Me Grow, a program from the United Way, promotes early identification of developmental, behavioral or educational concerns, then links children and families to community-based services and supports at no cost to parents and caregivers. Come to learn more about key developmental milestones to look for in your children and gain insight into resources that are available for support.

About Gretchen Smithwick, Program Manager, United Way
Gretchen Smithwick started as a volunteer at the Heart of Florida United Way in 2010 and since then she has worked in various capacities within the company. Gretchen was a part-time 211 Crisis Intervention Specialist for five years and was responsible for providing Information and referrals, crisis de-escalation and suicide prevention to central Florida community members. After graduating college with a Masters in Social Work, Gretchen was promoted to the Help Me Grow Program Manager where she has utilized her previous work experiences to improve processes, procedures and elements of the Help Me Grow service delivery.

Since taking over the role of Program Manager Gretchen has established a partnership with the Orange County WIC & Nutrition program to improve families access to free developmental screenings, she has doubled the number of families referred to the program and connected to services, and improved the availability of resources and systems for the health and development of young children. Gretchen enjoys reading, spending time friends and family and pampering her puppies.

Succulent Pumpkin Centerpiece Workshop

‘Tis the season for pumpkin everything! Join Orlando’s own FarmGal Flowers to create your very own Succulent Pumpkin, a unique and eye-catching fall decoration for your home or office. Through step-by-step and hands-on instruction, you’ll learn how to make this long-lasting fall centerpiece for your Halloween and/or Thanksgiving table.

Please bring a medium (10”-12” wide) pumpkin and a pair of floral scissors to class. Cinderella type pumpkins work best. All other materials provided. Please contact Eileen (farmgalflowers@gmail.com) for any questions.

About Eileen Tongson

Eileen Tongson is the owner of FarmGal Flowers (farmgalflowers.com), an urban flower farm and design studio. She is also one of the gardeners at East End Market where she grows flowers and helps maintain the market garden. In addition to growing her own flowers, Eileen designs arrangements for special occasions and small events. Eileen completed the University of Florida IFAS Master Gardener Program and has studied floral design at numerous locations over the years including Floret Flower Farm, the City College of San Francisco, and Flower School New York.

Eileen is also a Gardening and Floral Design instructor at Harry P. Leu Gardens and East End Market. Her flowers and gardening expertise have been featured in Edible Orlando, Florists’ Review, Houzz.com, TravelChannel.com, The Monarch Initiative, Ocala Magazine and Glam.com. Collaborations have included The Ford Motor Company, Williams-Sonoma Winter Park, the Orlando Museum of Art, the Orlando Magic and The Grove Winter Park. She continues to expand and refine her skills regularly through floral design/flower farming workshops across the country and as a member of the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers.
